Meet Our Moonshiners

Moonshiners of Yalaha Bootlegging Co.

Have we ever told you the story of Uncle Jedidah and his niece, Betty?

It’s a story that has been told in our family for over 100 years.

Uncle Jedidah and his niece, Betty, are the original moonshine runners in our family. The story starts in 1900 when Jed started to tinker with different alcohol recipes after working on his family's blueberry farm. Jed would disappear at night to craft his moonshine. Many years later he finally got his recipe just right and he shared his secret mission with his brothers.

One of his brothers was busy all of the time working in the city and often asked Jed to watch his daughter Betty. Jed watched over Betty for most of her life and taught Betty many jobs around the farm and helped harvest blueberries with Jed.

Betty turned 21 right at the beginning of the prohibition in the 1920s to help sell Jed’s moonshine. Betty would charm anyone who came in contact with her and would sell Jed’s moonshine all throughout the town. They were known as the best ‘water’ suppliers in town. Betty was a charmer that could sell ice to an Eskimo but Jed was convinced that his moonshine success was because of his recipe.

They describe Jed as someone who drove a T-Model Ford truck, a farmer at his core, and a sweet older fella who talked about moonshine to anyone and everyone.

Betty is described as being a charmer who drove like Danica Patrick, shoots like Belle Star, and knew all the words to every Kitty Wells song.

Jed and Betty made a great team! We still use his moonshine recipe as the foundation for our shine and honor them as the legends behind our brand.

Here’s to you, Jed and Betty!
